Iran's Foreign Minister responds to Trump's all-caps Twitter threat

Trump had a friendly summit with dictator Kim Jong-un last month.

"WithIn a few weeks, the US will reimplement the sanctions so they are panicking due to that", said Danon.

Trump's tweet prompted questions about what the president meant by "consequences" for Iran, aside from the economic sanctions the already set to reimpose after leaving the Iran nuclear deal.

Pompeo also tweeted a succession of messages in Farsi, trying to bring his message directly to any Iranians able to skirt their country's censors. But Iran's most powerful leader, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Saturday that negotiations with the United States would be a "mistake".

Rep. Castro continued his comments Monday by telling President Trump that his tactics will not clear him in the Russian Federation investigation.

President Trump issued a strongly worded all-caps late-night tweet, after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, right, said that war with Iran would be "the mother of all wars". "We need to understand just what such a war would entail and what the consequences would be if it happened".

Iran is a favourite target of Trump's ire, especially since relations between Washington and North Korea began to thaw in recent weeks.

The statement from President Rouhani that set off Trump was a clear threat to the United States.

Iran faces increased U.S. pressure and looming sanctions after Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from a 2015 global deal over Iran's nuclear program.

A prominent Iranian political analyst is downplaying President Donald Trump's warning to Iran and the escalating rhetoric, saying they were in his opinion "the storm before the calm".

Prominent Iranian analyst Seed Leilaz downplayed the war of words, describing it as "the storm before the calm".

A high-ranking Iranian officer says President Donald Trump's warning of unprecedented "consequences" for Iran, should it threaten the United States, is nothing but "psychological warfare".

Trump's threat to Iran came hours after a speech by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who denounced Iran's clerical leadership as a "mafia" and promised unspecified backing for Iranians unhappy with their government.

"Mr Trump! We are the honest men who have throughout history guaranteed the safety of this region's waterways", Hassan Rouhani told Trump in a televised speech.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the United States president's "strong stance" after years in which the Iranian regime was "pampered by world powers".

President Rouhani warned the U.S. not "play with the lions tail" as tensions simmered - sparking a furious reaction from Trump.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hit back at the president Monday, tweeting in all caps, "COLOR US UNIMPRESSED".

"Americans should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace".

On Sunday, Mr Trump had warned Iran President Hassan Rouhani against threatening the USA again.
