Iran tells Trump he's launched 'PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE' and will never abandon beliefs

Gholamhossein Gheybparvar said America wants to "destroy Iran", but Mr Trump "cannot do a damn thing", Reuters reported, citing Iranian news agency ISNA.

Iran's president has warned Donald Trump against provoking the country, telling the U.S. leader that "war with Iran is the mother of all wars". "We are not longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death".

The Iranian president, considered a moderate, has previously threatened to close the strait in response to US President Donald Trump's threat to stop Iranian oil exports through the waterway.

The tweet follows an apparent warning issued by Iran's President in which he said Americans "must understand that war with Iran is the mother of all wars and peace with Iran is the mother of all peace".

Prior to Pompeo's speech on Sunday, Iranian President Hasan Rouhani warned Trump not to escalate tensions with Iran, saying a confrontation with Iran would be the "mother of all wars".

Tensions between the USA and Iran have been heightened for years, dating back well before the Trump administration.

Pompeo accuses Iranian Supreme Leader of profiting from $95 billion hedge fund

Netanyahu lobbied hard to have the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers cancelled, and Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement in May.

"War with Iran is the mother of all wars" doesn't sound like the kind of statement Rouhani would give if he were offering an olive branch.

Iran's president also warned Trump against efforts to stop other countries from buying the Gulf nation's oil exports. "The regime is also committed to spreading the revolution to other countries, by force if necessary", Pompeo said during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.

Pompeo said the Iranian economy is "going great", but only for the elite, accusing the ayatollahs and senior leaders of lining their pockets to the tune of billions of dollars while a third of Iranians live in poverty. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US president's "strong stance" after years in which the Iranian "regime was pampered by world powers".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has blasted Iran's religious leaders as "hypocritical holy men" whom he says are more interested in lining their pockets and spreading hardline views overseas than helping out their own cash-strapped citizens. Pompeo talked about increasing the media outreach to the Iranian people. "The United States supports you. By lodging personal attacks against Iran's supreme leader, making demands that no one believes Iran can fulfill, and hinting at regime change, the administration is making clear that military action is very much on the table". "We believe in the path of happiness and progress, resistance and steadfastness in the face of enemies and those who seek our ill".
