Explaining the Russia-Germany pipeline that Trump says he’s so mad about

US President Donald Trump accused Germany on Wednesday of being a "captive" of Russian Federation due to its energy reliance and its support for the plan to double capacity of the Nord Stream pipeline under the Baltic Sea to Germany, bypassing traditional routes through Ukraine.

"We have said before that we consider this to be unfair competition", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that it was an attempt to force European buyers to purchase more expensive gas from elsewhere.

"We are protecting Germany, we are protecting France, we are protecting all of these countries and then numerous of the countries go out and make a pipeline deal with Russian Federation where they are paying billions of dollars into the coffers of Russian Federation".

He asked, while Stoltenberg listened "Germany will have nearly 70 percent of their country controlled by Russian Federation with natural gas".

"You tell me if that's appropriate because I think it's not".

Deschamps was in charge two years ago when France were beaten finalists by Portugal in Euro 2016, another home tournament. Everyone has been out on the streets celebrating what we've achieved and that is a great source of pride for us.

Germany's Uniper and Wintershall are among western partners, that also include Anglo-Dutch Shell, France's Engie and Austria's OMV.

The gas pipeline will not cross transit countries such as Ukraine, Belarus and Poland, running through the exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. "This project has provoked a very heated debate on both sides of the Atlantic, and we are convinced would absolutely have an adverse impact on Ukraine, on Slovakia, and Eastern Europe". His remarks were rejected by German officials.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called Nord Stream 2 a "political bribe" from Russian Federation to Germany.

".Supplies of pipeline gas do not lead to dependence of one country on another but to complete mutual dependence". "I myself have also experienced a part of Germany being controlled by the Soviet Union", she said.

In addition to the president, other US officials have taken to the world stage this week to decry the project. Macron said he was not surprised by such behavior trump. Trump has said he would like to see an increase in US exports of liquified natural gas. "And we can not lose sight of that". Europe needs diverse sources of gas, not, in our view, a new Nord Stream 2 pipeline, and to lock in greater reliance on Russian Federation at this moment ... He also said Moscow didn't have any rosy expectations from the meeting.
