Chelsea set to announce the departure of former Italy manager

However, Conte's apparent dismissal drew a response from Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas, who liked a tweet a Chelsea fan posted about Conte having been sacked although the Spanish 2010 World Cup victor subsequently claimed he had liked it by accident.

Conte took pre-season training this week but ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri expected to take over.

Antonio Conte has been sacked by Chelsea FC.

Chelsea sacked Conte and nearly his entire staff at the club's Cobham training ground after the Italian took a morning session yesterday, with Sarri now on the brink of taking over.

After winning the title in his first season in charge, Conte has fallen out with the Chelsea board this term and bemoaned the deficiency of world-class signings in his squad. "Great man, Great manager".

"We wish Antonio every success in his future career".

No absentees for England training ahead of World Cup semi-final
The hunger of players has been there for everyone to see, we are proud of the style they have played. I think everyone is so close in there.

Carlo Ancelotti replaced Sarri as Napoli coach following the end of the season, with a Chelsea move having been on the cards since Conte's relationship with the club's senior management turned sour in 2017-18.

The former Empoli manager was named Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17.

Conte departs a year before his contract was due to expire and will now be in line for £9million in compensation.

Napoli are also expecting compensation of around £4.5million for Sarri, who is under contract even though he is no longer their coach. Sarri could be joined by former Chelsea striker Gianfranco Zola as part of the backroom staff.

And Sarri's transfer wishlist is rounded out by CSKA Moscow's Aleksandr Golovin, whose stock has risen in recent weeks following a sterling World Cup, and young Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.
