The summit is scheduled to occur in Singapore, where State Department officials are now meeting with North Korean counterparts to plan the logistics of the meeting.

Kim Yo-jong delivered a personal letter to South Korean President Moon Jae-in on behalf of her brother, Kim Jong Un at the time.

"And hopefully we'll have a meeting on the 12th", he added. "It went very well", President Trump told reporters on the White House lawn.

President Trump has spoken of the possibility of winning a Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiations with the North Koreans, and the delivery of the letter moves him closer to the summit and the talks. It said Kim wanted to meet Trump but didn't make any concessions or threats, as have marked his previous communications.

On Friday, Trump told the press that the "letter was a very nice letter" and offered to share it with them. How much? How much?

Nevertheless, the United States president had warm words for Pyongyang, saying the long discussions had touched on North Korea's denuclearization and economic development. "We talked about ending the war", Trump said.

At the dialogue on Saturday, he also expressed his gratitude to Singapore for hosting the summit at short notice, saying the island-state had "taken it all in stride".

The three officers involved in the altercation have been reassigned to administrative duty , pending the investigation. In a since-deleted Facebook post, Weinman admitted to having beer on her but claimed that she wasn't drinking.

He said his meeting with the most senior North Korean to visit the White House in 18 years lasted longer than expected, and "went very well".

Later, Trump said he wants a deal where economic relations are normalized.

Trump called Friday's meeting "a great start" and declared, "We're going to deal".

President Trump's remarks follow months of pressure from China and South Korea on Washington to invest in the economic reconstruction of North Korea, ravaged by almost a century of oppressive communist rule. Trump, however, credited Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with forming a "very good relationship" with North Korea, leading to the release of American hostages and the beginning of talks.

Moving forward, the White House is planning on asking the United Nations for various payments connected to North Korea, but a list of exemptions could halt the process.

The summit, planned since April, was called off just a week ago by Trump amid a renewed round of heated rhetoric from Pyongyang and concerns over whether North Korea was honest about "denuclearization". "But I see over a period of time", Trump said.
