President Trump FREES grandmother from prison

Sources who spoke exclusively to Mic on Wednesday told the outlet that Trump has granted clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman who was serving a life sentence for a first time, non-violent drug offense.

The case was highlighted last week when Kim Kardashian West met Mr Trump to lobby for her release.

Johnson was indicted in 1994 for being part of a Memphis trafficking operation, along with over a dozen others. Johnson was hopeful then-President Barack Obama would grant her clemency in December 2016 since he was doing so for 231 individuals, many who were convicted of drug-related charges.

Kardashian West met with Trump on May 30 to support prison reform, and to make the case for Johnson. While the administration "will always be very tough on crime", the White House "believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance".

"Once Alice's family joined the call, the tears never stopped flowing", he added.

Holley says in a statement that she, "just got off the most wonderful, emotional and unbelievable phone call with Alice, Kim and Alice's lawyers".

Johnson said she and Kardashian West had a "heart connection" once the reality-TV star reached out after seeing a video about Johnson's story on social media. "When you see my face, you see so many other faces that I represent".

Johnson's commutation is the sixth time Trump has granted clemency to someone since taking office a year ago.

Nigeria World Cup kit drives fans wild ahead of England friendly
England got off to a great start against Nigeria today, taking the lead in the 6th minute through a Gary Cahill header. The 23-year-old spurned a number of chances to score at Wembley before being cautioned for diving in the second half.

"My mother has accepted full responsibility for her actions and used that experience to better her life and the lives of others".

Barnett, one of Johnson's attorneys, said in a statement, "Justice has been served today, and it's long overdue". Kardashian West, in an interview with Mic following that visit last week, said she felt the president listened to her concerns.

Ahead of the meeting, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star said she meant to seek a reprieve for Johnson. "Please wake up America and help end injustice", she said.

The reality star also revealed that she had the opportunity to personally give Johnson the news.

Johnson, an ordained minister, is also a playwright, mentor, counselor, tutor and a companion for suicidal inmates, and did not commit any disciplinary infractions in two decades in prison.

Kardashian West tweeted that calling Johnson to tell her that she was free is a moment she will never forget.

Kardashian West got involved in Alice Johnson's case after she was profiled in a viral Facebook video a year ago.

Johnson praised Kardashian West on Wednesday night for being a "warrior" and "relentless" in advocating for her release.
