They ended up in a pub, where some local imbibers were treated to a live performance from McCartney with a backing band performing "Hard Day's Night", "Obla Di Obla Da", "Love Me Do", and "Back in the USSR".

The pair started the show singing the Beatles hit Drive My Car, while cruising through the city, replacing the song's "beep beeps" with honks of the horn. "Just let it be".

During the conversation, Sir Paul revealed he wrote his first song at the age of 14, titled I Lost My Little Girl, before treating fans to a snippet.

Paul then took James on a tour of his house where he and the late John Lennon used to write songs together. "I didn't feel it coming".

As he led Corden through the home (even sitting down at the piano to sing "When I'm 64"), he told Corden how his father had critiqued "She Loves You", suggesting they replace the "yeah, yeah, yeahs" with "yes, yes, yes".

McCartney harmonised with Corden singing Blackbird and his new single Come On to Me from the album Egypt Station.

"If my granddad were here right now, he'd get an absolute kick out of this", Corden added, with tears still in his eyes.

"During the brilliant, extended sketch, McCartney (with Corden) sang the Beatles songs "Drive My Car", Penny Lane" and "Let it Be".

"Hi, I'm Paul McCartney", he said (needlessly) introducing himself to the homeowner.
