FPJ's dream XI predictions for Poland and Colombia

Radamel Falcao scored his first World Cup goal as Colombia got their tournament in Russian Federation up and running with an impressive 3-0 victory that ended a lacklustre Poland side's hopes of reaching the last 16.

The Juventus winger's trickery would eventually pay dividends, but it was Falcao - who has dreamed all his life of scoring a World Cup goal - who turned on the style, dancing through the Polish defence to win the corner that led to Colombia's opener.

Nonetheless, Colombia continued to push forward and took the lead five minutes before the break when Yerry Mina met a cross from Rodriguez to send home a strong header to make it 1-0.

Goals from Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado capped off a destructive showing from Jose Pekerman's side, whose victory also means that Poland find themselves eliminated from the tournament with a game still to be played.

The win for Colombia sees them on three points in Group H, placed third behind Japan and Senegal, who have four points each.

The respite was brief and on the next Colombia attack Juan Quintero found Rodriguez lurking inside the box and the midfielder chipped a delightful cross into the danger area for Mina to head the ball into the net from point-blank range.

With the Eagles on the ropes, Colombia sought to confirm three points as they pressed for a second and it arrived with 20 minutes left to play. Robert Lewandowski & Co. will be looking for a rebound performance.

The 29-year-old striker has averaged nearly a goal a game for Bayern in the past three seasons, and 57 percent of Poland's goals in World Cup qualifying came from the Warsaw native.

Colombia's Radamel Falcao scores against Poland.

It's a reminder both of Colombia's impressive run in Brazil, with Los Cafeteros nearly knocking out the hosts in the quarterfinal, and Rodriguez's importance to the Colombian national team. "So we fought, we tried to do our best, but at the moment we could not do anything more", the prolific Bayern Munich striker told Polish TV.

Colombia is still alive ahead of its final match against Senegal and can still win the group, while Poland can only hurt Japan's chances of advancement.

It said: "Hola mi Hermano James Rodriguez, I remember your great goals during the last World Cup".
