Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort sentenced to prison

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort sentenced to prison

A judge on Friday sent longtime Republican political operator and businessman Paul Manafort to jail pending trial after a charge of witness tampering, the latest episode in a slow fall from grace of a man who was President Donald Trump's campaign chairman in 2016. Manafort's previous $10 million bail agreement allowed him to remain on home confinement with a Global Positioning System ankle monitor. He turned and gave a last look and wave to his wife, seated in the well of the court. Mueller's team said that Manfort had been trying to contact people he lobbied with to make sure that they knew to say that he had paid them for political work in Europe, but not in the United States.

The charges were brought by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is now investigation Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Mr Trump's campaign and Russia.

She said she should not have to draft a court order spelling out the entire criminal code for him to avoid violations.

Manafort has pleaded not guilty to almost two dozen charges as part of the Russian Federation investigation being conducted by the special counsel Robert Mueller. Manafort faces charges in federal courts in both the District of Columbia and Virginia. One of the documents was a 2013 memo from Manafort to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. He is now in jail while he awaits trial.

While speaking to reporters earlier on Friday, Trump tried to distance himself from Manafort while making it clear that he believes the charges are unfair.

The existence of such information is far from certain.

Mr Mueller, whose investigation has overshadowed Mr Trump's presidency, is investigating whether the president's 2016 campaign colluded with Russian Federation and whether Mr Trump has unlawfully sought to obstruct the inquiry.

Electronic Arts has revealed key information regarding Battlefield V during their Play Live press conference in E3 2018 . The "Royale" mode in Battlefield V will not be available at launch, but will be released free later in the game's cycle.

Manafort served as Trump's campaign chairman from March 29, 2016 until August 19 of the same year. He was leading Trump's campaign as Russian meddling was ramping up. "Manafort has nothing to do with our campaign".

But those hopes came crashing down over the past year as special counsel Robert Mueller dug deeper into his past as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

President Trump's former campaign chairman will spend at least the next several weeks behind bars.

Trump had walked out on the White House driveway to be interviewed by Steve Doocy of "Fox & Friends".

Is that true? Was the meeting an isolated incident?

Charlie Gile reported from Washington, and Tracy Connor from NY. Cohen, like Manafort, was the target of an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid that some legal analysts considered heavy-handed.

In a freaky tweet soon after the court proceedings, Trump noted the "tough sentence for Paul Manafort" - despite the fact Manafort has not been sentenced. Yet the president' defense of Manafort was somewhat inauspicious.
