Cops: Tennessee Grandma Put Kids in Kennels in Trunk

A 62-year-old grandmother, Leimome Cheeks, was arrested for transporting her grandchildren in dog kennels in the back of her vehicle.

According to a police affidavit, the children-aged seven and eight-said there was no room left in the auto, so they were told to sit inside the kennels.

"There were no air conditioning vents in the back of the vehicle and the children became hot".

A Memphis woman allegedly placed her two grandchildren kennels and drove them around for at least 40 minutes. The attention grew so rabid that the Memphis Police Department issued a statement on Facebook saying they had been contacted by many people since the video went viral on social media.

A woman has been arrested after a video shared online showed two children getting out of pet kennels inside the trunk of an SUV. A police affidavit cited by the Commercial Appeal cited a similar statement from Cheeks, who reportedly said "there was no room inside the vehicle earlier in the day".

The woman is being charged with two counts of child endangerment, according to Cleveland 19.

The children are OK, according to police, but the same can't be said for Leimome Cheeks.

"It's shocking, it really is".

"I think she needs some help". She's such a nice lady, " neighbor Skylark Blake said. "I couldn't see her actually doing that", said Skylarr Blake, who lives doors down from Cheeks.

An investigation has been launched by Children Services and Memphis Police.

Cheeks is expected to appear in court Monday at 9 a.m.
