Trump to rally in Tennessee, where crucial Senate race looms

Before the rally at 7 p.m., President Trump visited a private fundraiser for U.S. Rep Marsha Blackburn.

Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen, a former Tennessee governor, are the favorites to win their respective parties' nominations ahead of the general election in November.

"We need Marsha and the Senate to continue the fantastic progress and work", said Trump.

"We need Marsha in the Senate to continue the awesome progress and work that we've done over the previous year and a half", Trump said of Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who's running for a Senate seat.

The president's fiery comments, in front of a large crowd Tuesday at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, were made to boost GOP Senate hopeful Marsha Blackburn. Bob Corker, who briefly flirted with reversing his decision not to seek re-election.

Trump thanked Corker for attending the rally, but the audience loudly booed the retiring Republican senator when the president mentioned his name. The Tennessee campaign is among several races crucial to Trump's plans to maintain control of the Senate, where Republicans are defending a narrow two-seat majority. "We can't", Trump said in Elkhart, Indiana.

CNN's Brooke Baldwin began by asking Ford why Trump got "outplayed" by North Korea. Trump said "I'd rather not say" whether he has spoken with North Korea's leader.

Trump also repeated his 2016 campaign pledge that Mexico will pay for the construction of a wall along the United States' southern border. "Sincerely, Mexico (all of us)", Pena Nieto wrote in English.

He said national security "is a great issue" for Republicans in the mid-term elections.

Tuesday's rally at the same place drew a promise from Blackburn.

In his final year in the Senate, Corker has called Bredesen a friend and said he won't actively campaign against him. Blackburn, who has already received the president's endorsement, has been counting down the days on Twitter until Trump shows up.

Trump remains popular in Tennessee after winning the state during his presidential campaign in 2016.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe discussed North Korea by phone on Monday and confirmed they would meet before an expected U.S.
