LeBron James shuts down Boston Celtics' Finals plans with another legendary performance

These days, it seems as though Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James could lift one finger and he'd right away set a new record.

Trailing 97-90, Marcus Smart out-wrestled James for a loose ball that led to a transition scoring opportunity for Brown whose 3-pointer hit the back of the rim and bounced out.

Wounded and worn out, LeBron James put in a superhuman performance that was extraordinary even for his standards to carry the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory over the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association playoffs.

James poured in 46 points with 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Terry Rozier scored 28 points to lead the Celtics, who are trying to return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010.

And then when it was time to secure a Game 7 back at TD Garden, James drilled back-to-back deep 3-pointers over Jayson Tatum to push the Cavs' lead to 11 and head for the airport.

Cleveland pulled ahead 38-33 in the second quarter courtesy of a 14-3 run, with a chance to add to it when James was fouled on a drive towards the basket with just over six minutes to play in the second quarter.

Brad Stevens can at least appreciate greatness even when facing it. He scored 46 points and made consecutive 3-pointers to ice the game, which had the internet in awe. He remains as among the best, if not the best, players in the game, and his presence in the Cavs' fold is undoubtedly what holds together a team filled with malfunctioning parts. Tatum was dazed, but Love crumpled to the court.

Love fell to the ground after the incident and eventually rose to his feet with the help of the Cavs medical staff which did a preliminary evaluation of him on the bench. Love, who suffered a concussion and missed a game in the 2016 Finals and had another one in March, might miss Sunday's game if put into the league's concussion protocol.

But things were different Friday night in Game 6 at Quicken Loans Arena.

His absence certainly factored into the play for the rest of the quarter which ended with Boston ahead 25-20.
