Dozens die in Gaza as U.S. opens new embassy in Jerusalem

Aaron David Miller, a former State Department Middle East analyst under Democratic and Republican administrations, called the embassy decision "totally untethered from US national interests".

The Palestinians cut off talks with the White House after Trump announced last December he would move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, which he recognized as Israel's capital.

The demonstrations and general strikes had been planned to protest against the USA embassy's relocation from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which many consider contravenes global consensus to not recognize the city as Israel's capital until its status is established during negotiations.

Kushner said, "While presidents before him have backed down from their pledge to move the American Embassy once they were in office, this president delivered".

The president's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, along with United States treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin, led the U.S. delegation with a single message: Only Donald Trump had the courage to act on what America has wanted for a long time.

"Today also demonstrates American leadership".

US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan said he was "confident the new US embassy in Jerusalem will be a magnificent tribute to peace".

Fox to add Tim Allen's 'Last Man Standing' to fall lineup
The six-season long Last Man Standing , on the other hand, routinely delivered around 8 million viewers on a weekly basis. Fox's addition of an NFL " Thursday Night Football" game this fall means there's less need for new scripted shows.

Trump announced in December that the US would recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital for the first time since the country's creation in 1948. That statement is met with extensive clapping. "In confronting common threats, and in pursuit of common interests, previously unimaginable opportunities and alliances are starting to emerge".

Kushner, a peace envoy, stresses the U.S. administration is still committed to a peace deal. The challenges to peace are "numerous" but the "determination" of leaders in the region "remains steadfast".

Israel says it only opens fire when necessary to stop infiltrations, attacks and damage to the border fence, while accusing Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs the blockaded Gaza Strip, of seeking to use the protests as cover to carry out violence. But if they agree to it, that's certainly something the United States would support. This is a decision that Israel has to make for itself and in conjunction with its negotiations with the Palestinians.

"Jerusalem must remain a city that brings people of all faiths together", Kushner said. Israel has been a "responsible custodian" of Jerusalem since 1967, he adds. I think we're waiting for the right time.

Trump said in the video: "The United States will always be a great friend of Israel and a partner in the cause of freedom and peace".

"We believe, it is possible for both sides to gain more than they give - so that all people can live in peace - safe from danger, free from fear, and able to pursue their dreams", he said.
